Where I’ve been
In one way or another, I’ve probably been where you are. At some point in life, I have :
– experienced very traumatic tinnitus.
– had tough times eliminating bad habits.
– procrastinated and paid a heavy price for it.
– endured periods of intense, unrelenting anxiety.
– survived a full-on career change and the crisis of confidence it can bring on
– been through a failed marriage and subsequent divorce.
These were often lonely experiences where empathy and practical solutions were scarce. I was eventually able to successfully navigate through each of these issues, but there was a lot of stumbling around blindly in the dark before I happened upon a light switch that properly illuminated each situation.
Why I coach and why I’m committed to your success
I know what it feels like – and how hard it is – to go through tough times without support or a clear idea of how to resolve complex issues. It is personally rewarding to me when I am able to help others find their way without having to endure what I went through.
Integrity is important to me. I could go on all day describing specific examples of bullshit I’ve encountered in life and how people who wouldn’t recognize integrity or know what to do with it if it was handed to them on a silver platter create massive problems for everyone else as well as themselves. I take great pleasure in simply not being one of them if for no other reason than the fact that they’ve made my life more difficult so many times. I’d rather be someone who acts as a counterbalance against the integrity-deficient crowd.
I enjoy helping others, and it’s something I do best. When I succeed in helping others, I benefit too:
– There’s an entire host of health benefits, both physical and psychological!
– When I’m doing great things for others, it’s easy for me to tell my little inner critic voice (the one that loves to tell me I deserve tough times) to take a hike!
– I earn the right to have a relatively comfortable life with a clean conscience.
– It just feels great! I can start a day feeling overwhelmed and discouraged, but after successfully coaching someone else through an issue, I end up feeling like “I got this!”
– I often learn (or am reminded of) things about myself or my own situation that help me with my own challenges.
– I get referrals, which keep my business successful and sustainable with little or no marketing.
– The more I coach, the smarter and better I become, and that’s important because…
I’m not perfect – not even close. If perfect is what you expect of a coach or consultant, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment, because perfect is an ideal, not a reality. Me, you, and the rest of humanity have issues that we struggle with and challenges we have yet to meet – and we always will. What’s important is that whoever might help you with your challenges
– has been through some genuinely tough times and learned from them
– feels a strong drive to act and speak with integrity as a counterbalance against so many people who don’t
– enjoys helping others because it’s something they do best.
– strives to become better today than they were yesterday, both personally and professionally
My struggles with chronic pain and tinnitus were often lonely experiences in that empathy and practical solutions were scarce from those closest to me, as well as from some healthcare professionals. As someone who understands not just the surface problems but the deep-seated battles that come with these issues and others, I now offer the support I once desperately needed. Your battles can be won, and sustainable change is possible. While I won’t guarantee success because that depends primarily on the work that you do in and beyond coaching sessions, you can expect that for the duration of our working relationship, I will be personally committed to helping you achieve sustainable goals that are important to you.
